Tour Details

A sacred Himalayan Tibetan Buddhist valley located in the northern part of Gorkha is Tsum Valley. ‘Tsum’ comes from the Tibetan word ‘Tsombo’, which means vivid. From Tsum Valley, the ranges of Ganesh Himal, Sringi Himal, Boudha Himal can be viewed. The valley is rich in ancient art, culture, and religion. This region once being part of Tibet, the people are mostly of Tibetan origin and speak their own mother tongue. The altitude of Tsum Valley trek varies from 1905m in Lhokpa to over 5093m at Ngula Dhojhyang pass on the Tibetan border. The hidden valley is surrounded by the Buddha Himal and Himal chuli to the west, Ganesh Himal to the south and Sringi Himal to North. Tsum Valley is located in the northern part of Manaslu which is one of the world’s remotest Himalayan Valleys which was also a restricted region until 2008.

The people in Tsum Valley still practice polyandry system and they have their own unique culture and tradition. They celebrate unique festivals like Lhosar, Dhacyhang, Saka Dawa, Faning etc. A very small number of adventure travelers have made it to this high and mysterious valley, which used to be an important trade link with Tibet. Many residents of this valley report that they have seen or found the signs of Mehti, commonly referred to as the ‘Yeti’ or ‘Abominable Snowman’.

Tsum Valley’s trekking route gives glimpses of the diversity of flora and fauna and beautiful landscape. The trek begins passes through many waterfalls on both sides of the Buddha Gandaki River and different species of birds in the forest. As we leave the main Manaslu Trail for the Tsum valley, feeling of entering truly into the hidden valley, pass through the alpine forests, glacial rivers, and enjoy the unique and warm hospitality of traditional people. This is a good choice for those who prefer to become one with nature and fall deep in its beauty.

While Tsum Valley trek starts and concludes at Arughat, the trek goes through many valleys, Budhi Gandaki River provides the magnificent vistas of Ganesh Himal, Shringi Himal, and Himal Chuli. The trek leads through lower Buri Gandaki regions of Liding, Machhakhola, Jagat, and Philim. We also visit the ancient Gombas of the region like Rachen Gompa, Mu Gompa, Dephyudonma Gompa. The people from this valley have their own traditions, lifestyle, and practice, which may be quite surprising for many trekkers.
